National Anthem not being played

Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, told the team to stop playing the national anthem. After this past summer and all of the social justice movements that happened Cuban felt as if this was best for the organization. This comes only a couple of months after the NBA players got the rules changed in order to kneel for the national anthem. In July last year, Cuban wrote in a now deleted tweet: “The National Anthem Police in this country are out of control. If you want to complain, complain to your boss and ask why they don’t play the National Anthem every day before you start work.” Cuban even said that the national anthem did not support the people anymore because of issues like we have seen lately and more.

This is very interesting to see and something that we have never seen before in this country. We have seen many social justices statements, including kneeling for the national anthem, but never just not playing the national anthem. Many athletes have said it does not represent them and does not prove the equality in this country and they have the right to say that. The NBA said that under the league rules all teams must play the national anthem before every single game. How will this impact the Mavericks organization and beyond? We will see what Cuban and the Mavericks do in the future after the NBA came out and said this, but it is something to look at and become aware of in the future of these social justice movements.

If you were Mark Cuban would you go against the NBA and not play the national anthem?

  1. I don’t think it will make a huge difference if they don’t play the national anthem to the fans an the players. It gives them alittle time to get ready for the game but other then that I don’t see a problem.

  2. I see both sides of the issue. On one hand it can be seen as disrespectful to the people who have served for our country, but then again, some people don’t entirely agree with what the songs says and symbolizes. If I were Mark Cuban, I would not go against the NBA because even though some don’t agree with it doesn’t mean that they can’t be respectful.
