McDonald’s Is Testing Strawless, Sippy Cup-Style Lids | NBC San Diego

The move to strawless lids is part of McDonald’s larger sustainability initiatives, which include phasing out plastic straws and expanding the number of products that are recyclable. McDonald’s is also looking at ways to reduce single-use plastics and packaging, such as switching to paper straws, using canola-based plastic packaging, and offering straws made from recycled materials.

McDonald’s is not the only fast-food chain to switch to strawless lids. Starbucks and Dunkin’ have made the switch in select markets, as well.

The goal of switching to strawless lids is to reduce the amount of plastic waste produced by the fast-food chain. The shift towards more sustainable packaging options is part of a larger trend among fast-food chains, which are looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint and improve the sustainability of their operations.

Though straws may soon become a relic of McDonald’s past, the chain is still committed to providing the same quality of products and services to its customers. 1. It would depend on how much the straw costs when compared to the substitute new lid that is now in use. If it costs less, than the financial statements of the company will have another path of profit and will have another alternative path to continue to consider. Other alternatives that I could think of is simply not having a lid at all for those who would take Mcdonalds while ordering to eat in.

  2. I think it’ll be good cause they wont have to buy straws no more and an alternative can be the strawless sippy cup style lids like the ones Starbucks has.

  3. I think the elimination of the cost of the straw will decrease the amount that McDonald’s will have to spend over the financial period. An alternative to straws would be their current solution or just get cheaper straws without a design/logo on them.

  5. It will affect the financial statements because McDonald’s will now pay for different kinds of lids which are most likely more expensive than the lids used before and with the new lids they will not pay for straws. Some other alternatives could be efficient but ecofriendly straws or another form of drinking.

  6. I believe that McDonald’s will have to spend less money overall due to the cost of the straw being eliminated. The company’s current solution or purchasing cheaper straws without a pattern or logo would be alternatives to using straws.

  8. How will the elimination of the straw and a new lid affect the financial statements of McDonald’s? What other alternatives could be used to replace the straw?
This depends on if the new lid is less cost-effective. If so they could put more money into their other products making them better quality.I would say that they could do paper straws or a more eco friendly straw

  9. How will the elimination of the straw and a new lid affect the financial statements of McDonald’s? What other alternatives could be used to replace the straw? The elimination of the straw and a new lid will affect the financial statements of McDonald’s by possibly reducing the amount they spend on purchasing two products for the drink (lid and straw) and also reducing pollution in a sense. I believe this is a good alternative and have no other choice.

  10. If the lid costs less than it would for straws then it can give them profit. An alternative can be to have blank straws with out the lines on it.

  11. This lack of straws will definitely affect McDonald’s. They won’t have to pay for straws which will save money because they will only have to purchase one type of lids. I guess an alternative would be to not have lids at all just open containers, but I don’t think that would be a good idea.

  12. I feel that this will not affect the financial statement of McDonalds. getting rid of the straws and adding the cups should equal out. another alternative would be changing to paper straws.

  13. I think eliminating the straws is A good idea because it’s a change and I think It’s it can be a good change.

  14. Depending on how much the straw would cost compared to the current replacement lid, would determine the answer. The company’s financial accounts will offer a different profit path and another choice for further consideration if it is less expensive. For those who might order McDonald’s to eat in, another alternative that comes to mind is not having a lid at all.

  15. The elimination of straws at McDonalds could be beneficial for them because depending on how much the straw costs compared to the lid, it could be making Mcdonalds more profit, if it’s the same then they’re just making the same profit but it’s better for animals and the environment.

  16. This will have little effect but if you add up all the money they are saving it adds up and it will be better to the environment without straws
