This decision makes Aldi the first major retailer in the country to eliminate plastic bags. Aldi is also taking further steps to support a healthier planet by pledging to use natural refrigerants in all its U.S. stores by 2035. More than 600 stores have already adopted eco-friendly refrigerants, saving nearly 60 percent of potential carbon emissions annually.
So, why is Aldi getting rid of plastic shopping bags? The decision aims to prevent almost 4,400 tons or nearly 9 million pounds of plastic from entering circulation each year.
