Southeastern Grocers Inc. has wrapped up its sale of Fresco y Más to Fresco Retail Group, LLC, marking a significant step in a larger acquisition deal. In August, it was announced that Aldi, the discount grocer, would acquire around 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores from Southeastern Grocers. As part of this transaction, Aldi is purchasing all outstanding Southeastern Grocers stock in an all-cash deal.
While Southeastern Grocers retains ownership and operation of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, the divestiture of Fresco y Más is a strategic move in their ongoing journey. Anthony Hucker, the president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, emphasized their commitment to becoming the preferred neighborhood grocer, providing top-notch quality, service, and value to customers and communities.
Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2024. During the transition period, Harveys and Winn-Dixie stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida will continue operating under their existing names.
