DirecTV and Disney strike a deal, restoring ESPN to millions of homes | Miami Herald
After a two-week standoff, ESPN and other Disney channels returned to DirecTV homes following a new deal between the two media giants. It all started on September 1, when the contract between DirecTV and Disney expired, leaving 17 Disney-owned networks, including ESPN and ABC, unavailable for millions of subscribers. This led to blackouts in big cities like New York and DirecTV streaming users nationwide, who were suddenly unable to watch major programs, like their favorite sports and shows. However, the major takeaway is that both companies recognize that the media landscape is changing fast, and this deal seems to adapt to the growing demand for more personalized viewing experiences.
