Frontier Communications, a cable company, is under pressure from investment firm Jana Partners to thoroughly review its business operations and explore the possibility of a sale. Jana Partners, which holds a stake in Frontier, expressed concern that the company’s shares would continue to underperform if decisive actions weren’t taken. In a letter to Frontier’s board, the investment firm emphasized the importance of pursuing options that generate the highest risk-adjusted return for shareholders, with a strong suggestion toward a potential sale as the optimal outcome.

Despite Frontier’s efforts to upgrade its fiber network to reach 10 million locations by 2025, Jana Partners pointed out the company’s stock’s lackluster performance. The firm argued that a genuine assessment of strategic alternatives, including a sale, would likely yield the best outcome for shareholders. Frontier’s foray into fiber broadband, adding 332,000 new fiber locations by the end of the third quarter of 2023, could attract interest from wireless carriers, potentially aligning with speculations about T-Mobile’s interest in acquiring Frontier.

In addition to advocating for a sale, Jana Partners suggested exploring opportunities such as selling non-core assets and engaging in strategic partnerships or joint ventures. The firm cited Frontier’s struggles in attracting new investors since emerging from bankruptcy in 2021. It attributed the stock’s sluggish performance to a complex balance sheet, a debt-funded fiber expansion strategy, and an uncertain regulatory environment. As Frontier collaborates with Goldman Sachs to evaluate its options, the company asserts its commitment to considering strategic alternatives that maximize shareholder value………full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 Frontier Cable TV Is Facing Pressure To Sell Its Business | Cord Cutters News[read more]
