The gap between Amazon and its competitors is expected to widen further, with internal forecasts projecting around 5.9 billion deliveries by the end of 2023, marking a 13.5% increase from the previous year’s 5.2 billion packages.
While UPS and FedEx, once considered industry leaders, are grappling with stagnation and market share loss, the US Postal Service still holds the title of the largest parcel service. Amazon’s success is attributed to its robust delivery network, technological advancements, and strategic partnerships. Despite parting ways with FedEx in 2019, Amazon maintains a delivery partnership with UPS, accounting for a significant portion of UPS’s revenue.
As Amazon continues its ascent, it has invested in cutting-edge technologies, such as the recently introduced Sequoia robotics system. This high-tech upgrade is designed to enhance efficiency, predict delivery estimates more accurately, and potentially reduce order fulfillment times by up to 25%. Having either cheaper or faster shipping rates, would help USPS and FedEX gain some footing against Amazon, they also could push marketing a bit more to show why thre rates are what they are.
