As the holiday shopping season approaches its final week, local businesses in Wichita, including Bondie’s Old Town Antique Mall, are experiencing a noticeable decline in customer foot traffic. Longtime employee Leroy Pruitt is uncertain whether this trend is primarily attributed to the rise of online shopping or broader economic factors. He does know that there’s a significant decrease in the number of customers walking through the store’s doors compared to previous years.
The situation isn’t unique to Bondie’s. Spektrum Musik, a record store, and Sweet ‘N Saucy, a specialty shop, also report that the holiday season seems quieter this year compared to the previous one. While foot traffic at Sweet ‘N Saucy remains typical, sales have dipped, and customers opt for smaller, more affordable items like stocking stuffers.
