Another Cable TV Company Announces It Will Shut Down Its TV Service Because of “Extreme Price Increases from Programmers” | Cord Cutters News

In recent months, a wave of small cable TV companies, including DUO Broadband, have made headlines by announcing the discontinuation of their TV services. DUO Broadband, based in Kentucky, is the latest addition to this growing list. They attribute this decision to the “extreme price increases from programmers” that have rendered the operation of cable TV financially unsustainable. Consequently, customers in Kentucky counties will soon lose access to their cable TV service.

This development is part of a broader trend in the industry, as just last week, Comcast announced a price hike, and another small cable TV company unexpectedly shut down, leaving its customers without internet or TV services. In response to DUO Broadband’s decision, customers must consider switching to alternative services such as Hulu, Fubo, Sling TV, YouTube TV, or satellite TV.

DUO Broadband explained on its website that the landscape of TV delivery is evolving rapidly, and they are compelled to adapt to these changes. They have decided to phase out their streaming TV service by January 4, 2024, and their traditional cable TV service by December 31, 2024, citing the escalating costs associated with maintaining cable TV systems and facilities. They assert that these cost increases would have led to significant price hikes for their customers, which they aim to avoid………full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 Another Cable TV Company Announces It Will Shut Down Its TV Service Because of “Extreme Price Increases from Programmers” | Cord Cutters News[read more]

The reason why larger national providers have such better rates and otherwise is quite literally in the name. ‘National’. They have an outreach beyond just a county and state, but to tens of millions all across the country, which gives them leeway in such negotiations. Those still in the industry could most definitely make use of new shows or otherwise on their cable, maybe making drives to have innovation rather than just size to stay competitive.
