The Biden administration is taking significant steps to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States by awarding $623 million in grants to expand the EV charging infrastructure nationwide. These grants will fund 47 EV charging stations and related projects in 22 states and Puerto Rico, providing 7,500 EV charging ports. The goal is to make EV chargers more accessible, reliable, and convenient for American drivers while creating jobs in charger manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.

President Joe Biden’s administration aims to build a national network of 500,000 publicly available EV chargers by 2030, a crucial component of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting electric transportation. However, progress has been slower than expected, with only Ohio and New York having opened charging stations under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program so far. The availability of charging stations is pivotal in achieving the administration’s goal of making EVs account for half of all new car sales by 2030.

Despite concerns about charging infrastructure and battery technology readiness, the administration remains optimistic about the future of electric vehicles. EV sales have surged, with over 1 million sold in the last year, and the number of publicly available charging ports has grown by nearly 70%. The grants announced include funding for community projects, highway corridors, truck charging sites, and hydrogen fueling stations, indicating a comprehensive approach to EV infrastructure development………..full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 Biden awards $623M to states, local governments and tribes to build EV charging network | AP News[read more]

His investment could change the economy because it would result in more people to buy electric cars instead of gas. It also hasten environmental goals by reducing the carbon emissions caused by gas powered cars, and reduce the use of oil rigs. It might change future consumer choices by wanting to buy an electric car instead of a gas one.
