Dairy sales are up: here’s why | Supermarket News

In the ever-changing landscape of the dairy industry, recent reports from the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) indicate a promising surge in dairy sales during the early months of 2024. This upward trend is a welcome relief after a slump in dairy sales towards the end of the previous year. According to Chad Galer, vice president of product innovation at Dairy Management Inc., dairy products now dominate retail aisles, buoyed by their enduring popularity driven by taste, nutrition, and versatility.

Consumers’ increasing focus on healthier eating habits has played a significant role in driving dairy sales. A growing preference for nutritious options has seen dairy, rich in essential nutrients like protein and calcium, aligning well with this trend. Moreover, the emphasis on gut health has propelled the consumption of yogurt and dairy products with added/high-protein functionality.

One notable trend is the resurgence of cottage cheese, with its high protein content making it a preferred choice among health-conscious consumers. Similarly, there’s a renewed interest in whole-fat dairy products, overturning previous misconceptions about their health effects. This shift is reflected in rising sales figures and legislative moves, such as reintroducing whole milk into school cafeterias after a long hiatus.

Marketing strategies in 2024 highlight the stories behind dairy brands, emphasizing connections with consumers through narratives of tradition, sustainability, and quality. Additionally, the industry is witnessing a rise in plant-based dairy alternatives and products fortified with functional ingredients, catering to evolving consumer preferences for health and sustainability.

As the dairy landscape evolves with the introduction of new products and shifting consumer demands, supermarkets face the challenge of balancing traditional dairy offerings with the growing demand for plant-based alternatives. This dynamic environment underscores the need for retailers to adapt and innovate to meet the diverse needs of consumers……….full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 Dairy sales are up: here’s why | Supermarket News[read more]
