Golf balls to be rolled back — for both professionals and amateurs | GOLF

In a surprising move to control the increasing distance gains in golf, governing bodies are gearing up to announce plans to dial back the golf ball for both professionals and amateurs. While the specifics of this decision, including when the rolled-back balls will come into play, remain unclear, it signifies a significant departure from the previously proposed Model Local Rule (MLR) in March. The MLR had suggested giving tournament organizers the option to require professionals and elite amateurs to play a rolled-back ball by January 2026, with most amateur golfers unaffected.

This shift is a response to concerns raised in the Distance Insights report released in 2020, which addressed the growing power gains among better players. The trend of longer shots has led to the lengthening of golf courses, increasing costs, and posing challenges for the golf industry. Critics argue that hitting the ball farther has always been a goal for golfers, and curbing it might impact the game’s popularity.

The impending modification raises questions about how golf ball manufacturers, professionals, golf courses, and various stakeholders will respond. Despite the pushback against the original MLR proposal, the governing bodies emphasize their responsibility for the game’s long-term future. This move has found support from legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, who has consistently advocated for checking the distance in the game………full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 Golf balls to be rolled back — for both professionals and amateurs | GOLF[read more]

I think it will have a huge impact for golfers who are just on the Greene practicing. They don’t half to walk down and get the balls and potentially waste time, now the ball will roll back to them. I think more people will buy golf balls with the new feature.

The changes in golf equipment and regulations will impact the business and marketing by the people who play gold and how they see the changes because they will decide to stay or keep playing or to not stay and not keep going.
