The coffee industry in the United States is brewing up success despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there are over 40,000 branded coffee shops across the nation, collectively valued at nearly $50 billion. These numbers have surpassed pre-pandemic levels, and experts predict that there could be more than 45,000 coffee shops by September 2028. Leading the charge is Starbucks, with a staggering 16,000 U.S. locations, followed by Dunkin’ with over 9,400 stores.

One reason for this remarkable growth is the sheer size of the American coffee market. With 174 million people over the age of 20 in the U.S. enjoying daily coffee consumption, it’s evident that the demand for coffee outside the home is substantial. Moreover, Starbucks, which opened its first store in 1971, has played a pivotal role in paving the way for the industry’s expansion. Despite its massive presence, the company continues to see an 8% increase in same-store sales, indicating sustained demand.

Another encouraging trend is the amount of time customers spend in coffee shops. According to the World Coffee Portal, 46% of people who visit coffee shop locations stay for up to 30 minutes, which suggests that coffee shops offer more than just a quick caffeine fix. Additionally, there is an opportunity for coffee chains to increase sales by enticing customers out of their homes, as nearly 80% of Americans still consume at least one cup of coffee at home……..full-loaf-600x400-1-e1700879832480 US Coffee Store Number Tops 40,000 | 24/7 Wall St.[read more]
